Global average temperatures hit an unprecedented high on Sunday, marking the hottest day on record, according to the European Union's climate monitoring system. The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) reported that the global average surface temperature reached 17.09 degrees Celsius (62.76 degrees Fahrenheit) on 21 July.
